At a young age, I grew the passion of doing hair. I practiced braid styles on family, friends then eventually, myself. One rule in the hair community everyone knows: NEVER get a relaxer directly after getting braids. And then there was me thinking “What could possibly go wrong?”
I take my hair down, let it rest for the night, then ask my mom to book me an appointment for a relaxer and updo. Next day came, I sat in the beautician’s chair… and as she’s applying this relaxer, i notice the relaxer burning rather quickly than expected. The beautician insisted that i leave it in a bit longer (possibly assuming i was just young and never experienced a professional relaxer). About 10 minutes later, she notices my tears and discomfort and finally washes it out. No immediate signs of hair damage, she styles it and sends me on my way.
2 weeks later, 16 year old me decided she wanted braids… AGAIN- great idea, right? Out with the old, in with the new. And two weeks later, it was out with my hair! My mom took me to a local dermatologist and I was diagnosed with alopecia areata universalis. I tried a topical prescribed from the doctor, didn’t work. My last option was injections in my head … NOT HAPPENING.
ONE NIGHT … I had a talk with GOD.
I wanted answers, I wanted a solution and he helped me create one. I stayed up, late nights, early , mornings… to help me come up with a formula to bring my hair back to life. 6 months later, I went from nothing but scalp to 70% of my hair back … which is a HUGE accomplishment for someone who hasn’t had a follicle of hair in 3 years.
